CBC’s Breaking Barriers Film Fund and ReelAbilities Toronto have created a new fund to grant cash awards to writers of theatrical length screenplays and treatments who identify with disability.
The total amount of funds available in 2017 are $10,000. Screenplays are eligible for awards of up to $10,000. Treatments are eligible for awards of up to $2000.
Submissions must be original works in English, written or co-written (at least 50%) by the Applicant. Book adaptations are not eligible, unless the source material (novel or play) was also written by the Applicant. Applicants may submit either a Feature length screenplay (85-120 pages in “script format standard”) or a Treatment (10-20 pages double spaced). Include a logline that encapsulates the story in one line and does not exceed 50 words. Screenplay or treatment must only have the title on the cover page. Limit of one submission per Applicant.

Deadline and Announcement
Eligible Applicants must satisfy all of the following requirements:
- Be residents of Canada who are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Be over the age of majority in their province of residence.
- Demonstrate ownership of all underlying rights to their Submission.
- Identify with a disability in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
